Quiet Transfer

Rachel Cunningham tends to choose wide subject matters or places to condense them in short sequences, often combining the representation of those places or landscapes with still lifes. Quiet Transfer, for example, is a work made of just a panoramic view of Jerusalem and six images of remains of demolished houses, aiming at "the combination of a research into the present and an attempt to understand how the colonial interest in the Middle East, and particularly the British involvement in Palestine, shaped a certain image of the city and its landscape".

I guess Broomberg & Chanarin might quite appreciate an effort of this kind.

Rachel Cunningham sceglie spesso vasti temi e luoghi per poi condensarli in brevi sequenze, combinando la rappresentazione di luoghi e paesaggi con immagini di still life. Quiet Transfer, ad esempio, è un lavoro composto soltanto di una veduta panoramica di Gerusalemme e di sei immagini di resti di case demolite, "l'unione di una ricerca sul momento presente con il tentativo di comprendere come gli interessi coloniali in Medio Oriente e in particolare la presenza britannica in Palestina abbiano plasmato una certa immagine della città e del suo paesaggio".

Credo proprio che Broomberg & Chanarin apprezzerebbero molto un'impresa di questo tipo.
