Magic postcards

Andréas Lang è autore di illustrazioni fotografiche che mostrano luoghi da un mondo quasi fiabesco, immagini che portano nomi familiari ma che sono popolate da ombre e presenze invisibili. Molte volte questi luoghi sono dipinti in modo molto affascinante, altre volte resta la sensazione che siano solo ricoperti da una specie di polvere magica e che possiamo ancora riconoscerli (almeno questo è quello che penso guardando ad esempio la Bocca della Verità di Roma, ma forse è solo perché ci vivo, chissà), luoghi conosciuti ma rivestiti di un qualche 'effetto mistero'.
I suoi lavori recenti a colori in Medio Oriente e a Madrid sembrano però avere un carattere più essenziale, muovendosi tra il 'topografico' e il concettuale.

Andréas Lang makes photographic illustrations that show us places from a fantasy world, carrying the same names of places familiar to us, but filled with magic presences and lurking shadows. Sometimes his 'brush' paints the surface of the images in a really beautiful way, re-inventing the places he photographs, other times there is somehow the feeling that the place is just covered with some magic powder, but still we can recognize it (or at least that's what for example Rome's Mouth of Truth makes me feel - but maybe it's me, after all it's the city where I live), just a normal place covered with some glowing 'mistery effect'.
His most recent color works in the Middle East and in Madrid seem to be heading towards a more essential approach, shifting from 'topographic' to conceptual.
