Mitra Tabrizian è una fotografa e filmmaker iraniana che vive a Londra. Le sue fotografie sono dei grandi tableaux dove vengono messi in scena momenti presi come icone di diversi elementi chiave della società contemporanea, come ‘l’ascesa della cultura aziendale, il nomadismo, le migrazioni e il concetto di patria’, per citare la presentazione della sua mostra attualmente in corso alla Tate Britain.
Nei testi che accompagnano i suoi lavori c’è molta filosofia, psicoanalisi e politica, e forse a volte si rimane con la sensazione che il suo linguaggio visivo sia in qualche modo incastrato in tutte queste riflessioni, come se alcune sue immagini volessero semplicemente rappresentare delle illustrazioni delle diverse teorie sulla società contemporanea.

Mitra Tabrizian is an Iranian photographer and filmmaker based in London. Her photographs are large staged tableaux where the people she photographs act (or re-enact) scenes that almost stand as icons of several contemporary issues, like ‘the rise of corporate culture, themes of nomadism and migration, and notions of homeland’, as the text presenting her ongoing exhibition at Tate Britain say.
Quite a lot of philosophy, psychoanalysis and politics are mentioned in the texts illustrating the works – and sometimes perhaps there’s the feeling her visual language is somehow embedded in all those reflections, as if some of her images were just supposed to stand as illustrations of different theories about our society.
